About Tim Kelly

Growing up in the Welch area with his parents and nine brothers and sisters, Tim is a lifelong resident of Goodhue County and is no newcomer to the issues and concerns of District 21A. Tim and Sue, his wife of 18 years, now live in Hay Creek Township and enjoy spending time raising their four children: Jess, Cole, Macy, and Tait.

After graduating Red Wing High School, Tim pursued his interests in the business world by attending Minnesota State University-Mankato. There, he earned his Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Management & Industrial Relations and minored in Economics. He graduated Cum Laude in four years while also playing football for Mankato State.

As a professional, Tim joined the investment advisory and financial planning firm of Discovery Financial Centers in 1996. While working at the firm's Red Wing location, Tim quickly moved into a leadership position becoming a Partner in 1999. As a small business owner, fiscal responsibility and common sense decision making are an everyday part of Tim's life.

During Tim's first term in office, he proved to be an effective voice for the district's needs. He quickly emerged as a dedicated elected official and leader in the Minnesota House of Representatives. Tim served on four committees: Civil Justice, Health Care and Human Services Policy and Oversight, Public Safety Finance Division, and Public Safety Policy and Oversight. He was chief author of over 20 bills including: a bill to lift the moratorium on nursing home construction, a bill to fund lighting and sound equipment for Lake City schools, and a bill to improve siting standards for wind energy units.

In addition, Tim helped to author more than 90 bills introduced to the house floor. After being recognized as a motivated leader, Tim was invited to serve on the joint House and Senate conference committee for five separate bills. In his first four years, Tim acted as an eager ambassador for the needs of all of District 28A's members.
